Mole Removal Options

During a consultation with Dr Omarjee, you will be presented with a number of cosmetic mole removal options. If these choices are suitable for warts and skin tags, we can also look at removing them at the same time. You just have to look at our mole removal before and after photos below to see what can be achieved.

Available options include:

Radiofrequency mole removal (Ellman Surgitron) – The Surgitron mole removal option is different to standard diathermy devices commonly used at clinics, as it uses radiofrequency to cauterise moles and warts during the excision process. This significantly reduces the likelihood of bleeding at the excision site and greatly reduces scarring, making it a suitable option for facial mole removal.
Laser removal of moles (RevLite Laser and IDAS 532nm Laser) – Laser removal of moles, skin tags and other lesions is a leading non-surgical cosmetic method. We can use lasers to treat raised moles and lesions or flat benign pigmented lesions. We use specific powerful light-based technology to hone in on unwanted pigment without causing damage to the surrounding skin.
Mole and skin lesion excision – traditional method of excising moles or leisons and repairing the area with stitches.
Mole and skin cancer assessment – Some moles prove to be more than just moles. If you notice a lesion changing size, shape or colour, a skin lesion biopsy will be able to determine whether the mole is benign or malignant.

The fee may vary according to the service provided to you on the day you are seen. We require full payment on the day of consultation, and accept cash, EFTPOS, Visa and MasterCard.

Does mole removal hurt?

Most patients will tell you that mole removal does not hurt. With both laser removal and radiofrequency mole removal, a local anaesthetic maybe required for the procedure. Patients experience minimal to mild discomfort during the treatment and it is generally a quick procedure. This means that you have nothing to worry about before laser removal and radiofrequency mole removal.

How long does mole removal take?

Radiofrequency mole removal and Laser mole removal are quick and simple procedures. This means that patients will be usually receiving treatment for 15 to 30 minutes and will be able to leave straight away after the procedure. Both procedures are non-invasive compared to surgical mole removal. Radiofrequency is usually a one-off procedure, whereas Laser mole removal requires a few visits.

What will the area look like after mole removal?

After radiofrequency mole or Erbium Laser Mole removal, you can expect the localised area to resemble a flat wound (like a graze). It will heal with a minor scab over 14 days in most people. This scab exfoliates off soon after leaving a healing area. This area is usually red in colour and fades over a few months to leave the end result. There is no pain usually experienced.
In contrast, after Laser mole removal you can expect the lesions to go darker. This is normal after the procedure. Then it will exfoliate off the skin over the next 2 weeks, which begins the lightening process. Again, this is normal and is all part of the laser lightening process which can take a few months.

How long will it take for the area to heal afterward mole removal?

Radiofrequency mole removal and laser mole removal will require a few weeks for the skin to heal. While the area will not hurt or cause any problems during this time, the new skin has to develop. This means that it will appear pink and form a scab for a while (Radiofrequency mole removal) or appear darker and then start to lighten over a few months (Laser mole removal). After several months, the optimum aesthetic result is achieved.

Should I take time off work for mole removal?

The great thing about Radiofrequency mole removal and laser mole removal is that they are non-surgical procedures. This means that you are not required to take any time off work for the procedure. Most patients decide to go back to work straight away. There is no downtime needed. However, some patients that have moles in noticeable places may feel self-conscious about their removal and choose to take some time off for healing. But, this will be your own choice and it is certainly not required.

Can I wear makeup over the area?

If you are feeling self-conscious about the area of skin that is healing after mole removal, you will be able to wear makeup over the skin the following day after the Laser Mole removal and after 2 weeks post Radiofrequency Mole removal.
